What to Wear for Running in Hot Weather (Indian Summer Guide)
Share
Running in India means dealing with heat and humidity for a big part of the year. What you wear can make a hot run bearable or miserable. Here's a simple head-to-toe guide.
Skip cotton, choose technical fabric
Cotton T-shirts soak up sweat, get heavy and stick to you. For running, choose light polyester or nylon blends that let air through and dry quickly. They pull sweat off your skin, so you stay cooler and chafe less.
Tops: light and loose enough to breathe
Pick a lightweight tee or tank with room for air to move. Seamless tops are a good choice for longer runs because there are fewer seams to rub under the arms and across the shoulders.
Try the Seamless Jacquard T-shirt (breathable and made to manage moisture) or the feather-light Cooling Tshirt. For women, the Breathe Top is featherweight and breathable.
Shorts: think about inseam and lining
Shorter inseams (5–7 inches) give your legs more freedom and keep you cooler. Longer ones (9 inches) give more coverage. Lined shorts or skorts mean you don't need extra layers underneath, and that helps in the heat.
- Men: Pulse Shorts (7-inch, compression-inspired fit, quick-drying) or Sprintlite Shorts (lightweight).
- Women: Aeroform Lined Shorts, the Rally Skort with built-in shorts, or Sprintlite Shorts.
Socks matter more than you think
Damp feet cause blisters. Wear breathable sports socks that fit snugly without bunching. Ankle socks keep things cool, and quarter-length socks protect your ankles from shoe rub. See our cotton sports socks.
Five hot-weather running tips
- Run early in the morning or after sunset, when it's coolest.
- Drink water before you head out, not just after.
- Choose lighter colours on very sunny days.
- Slow your pace on humid days. Your body is working harder to cool down.
- Wash running kit after every run so it keeps breathing well.
